File Transfer Android is a handy little utility that lets you share files between devices that are connected to the same WiFi network. It doesn't require any cables and supports data transfer speeds that are far higher than those of Bluetooth-based file transfer apps. As it isn't a cloud-based app and relies on your local network, it doesn't use your Internet connection and your files aren't sent to any kind of remote server.

Easy File Sharing Between All Kinds of Devices

The app's interface is similar to what you would see in a file manager, so you should figure out where all functions are and how to use them in a minute or two. What makes File Transfer Android stand out is its compatibility with Android and iOS mobile platforms, as well as Windows and Mac desktops. This cross-platform functionality is very useful if you want to move files from a desktop to your Android device and vice versa.

The app can handle sending or receiving any file type. You can use it with media files, work documents, applications, compressed archives and more. Unlike "server-style" apps aimed at businesses and IT experts, there are no complicated configuration procedures or settings to adjust. File Transfer Android automatically detects all devices on the network. All that you have to do is enable receive mode on the device the files will be sent to and you're ready to go.

Files are transfered very quickly and there are no major reliability issues reported so far. However, a device that has weak wireless signal strength may experience slower transfer speeds or errors during transfers. You can increase your router's transmission power or bring devices closer to it if you experience performance problems.

Free Version Comes With Some Limitations

While the app itself is of excellent quality, the free version's limited functionality can be disappointing. It displays ads, but this isn't the main problem. The free edition doesn't support receiving files on Android devices and limits file transfers to 5 MB.

In order to overcome these limitations, you will need to purchase the paid version. It allows you to send and receive files of all sizes between all devices on your local wireless network. While the paid version is very cheap, anyone looking for a free file transfer app that supports large files will find the free edition of File Transfer Android useless.
